AstraZeneca and the drug giant Pfizer have agreed to a trial offer for an experimental version of Vardenafil, the most commonly prescribed medication for erectile dysfunction (ED).
The drug, sold under the name Levitra as Viagra, has been the subject of several drug trials, and is the only drug to be approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for erectile dysfunction (ED).
But the drug is available only through an online consultation with a U. licensed pharmacist who can prescribe Vardenafil, the drug’s generic equivalent of Levitra.
The trial is sponsored by Pfizer, the maker of Viagra. It was the first time a doctor had been allowed to prescribe a medication for erectile dysfunction in the U. when a clinical trial showed the drug could help people with ED who were not able to achieve or maintain an erection, the FDA said.
The company said that “as with any medication, the likelihood of side effects and interactions with other medications may increase with increasing dosages.”
In a letter dated Tuesday to The Associated Press, Pfizer said it had agreed to pay $2.1 billion to settle a lawsuit by people who found the drug to cause serious side effects.
The lawsuit was filed by the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, which accused Pfizer of illegally marketing its ED drug for medical use.
The lawsuit alleged that the company falsely marketed and promoted Levitra, the generic drug for which it has won approval from the FDA. The lawsuit said the drug caused patients to have serious side effects, including heart problems, including strokes and heart attacks.
The lawsuit claimed that Pfizer’s marketing and promotion of the drug were so misleading as to cause serious harm.

In a statement to USA TODAY, Pfizer said it “recognizes the continuing legal action that we’re taking today to protect the safety, quality and efficacy of this medication.”
Pfizer said it will settle the lawsuit “with appropriate parties.”
The company has also made efforts to protect its patents for Levitra, and is considering filing a lawsuit against Pfizer, the drug maker of Viagra, in the U. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.
It is not clear when Pfizer will make a final decision on the lawsuit, which could take years.
